Prop Firm Commission Rates 2026 — Complete Guide for Futures Traders

Updated July 2026 · Rates verified from official firm documentation

Why Commission Rates Matter More Than You Think

Most futures prop firm traders know their profit target and drawdown limit. Fewer know their exact commission rate — and it costs them.

Here's the problem: Rithmic, the execution platform used by Apex Trader Funding, Take Profit Trader, Topstep, and most major prop firms, does not report commission back to NinjaTrader or Quantower. Your platform shows you a gross P&L. Your prop firm dashboard shows your net P&L. The difference is commission — and if you're not tracking it correctly, your trading journal is lying to you.

On 10 ES round-trips per day at $3.98 per trade, you're paying $39.80 in commission daily. Over a 20-day trading month, that's $796 in fees — more than many traders' monthly profit targets. Knowing your exact rate matters.

TrackyTrade automatically applies the correct commission rate for your prop firm so every trade shows your real net P&L — matching what your prop firm dashboard reports.

Why Rithmic Doesn't Show Commission in NinjaTrader

This trips up nearly every prop firm trader using NinjaTrader 8 or Quantower with a Rithmic connection.

Rithmic is an execution engine, not a brokerage. It routes your orders to the exchange but doesn't automatically pass commission data back to your platform's P&L display. Your NinjaTrader account shows gross P&L — the price difference between entry and exit — but it doesn't subtract the commission your prop firm charged.

Your prop firm dashboard, however, shows your net P&L after commission. That's the number that counts toward your profit target and drawdown.

The result: your platform shows a winning trade. Your prop firm dashboard shows a smaller win. This discrepancy confuses traders and makes it harder to manage your account accurately.

The fix: Enter your firm's commission rate once in your trading journal. TrackyTrade does this automatically, applying the correct per-symbol rate to every trade so your journal always matches your prop firm dashboard.

How TrackyTrade Handles Commissions

TrackyTrade applies commission rates automatically based on your account configuration:

For NT8 / Quantower prop firm traders:

Rithmic reports $0 commission to your platform. You enter your firm's rate once in TrackyTrade → Accounts → Commission Settings. TrackyTrade deducts the correct amount from every trade going forward — and auto-fills the rate when you select your firm.

For Tradovate traders:

Commission is captured automatically via the Tradovate API. No manual entry needed.

For NT8 / Quantower retail traders (Ironbeam, AMP, Dorman):

Your broker reports commission per execution. TrackyTrade captures it automatically. No setup needed.

For CSV imports:

If your exported CSV shows gross P&L, enter your commission rate in account settings. TrackyTrade will deduct it from every imported trade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do commission rates count against my drawdown?

Yes — at all major prop firms, your drawdown is calculated on net P&L after commissions. A $100 gross winner on ES with $3.98 commission is a $96.02 net winner for drawdown purposes.

Does commission count toward my profit target?

Yes — your profit target is always net of commission. A $6,000 target means you need $6,000 in net P&L, not gross.

Why does my NinjaTrader show a different P&L than my prop firm dashboard?

Almost certainly a commission issue. Rithmic doesn't pass commission to NinjaTrader. Your prop firm is showing net P&L; NT is showing gross. Enter your commission rate in TrackyTrade to fix this.

Are these rates the same for evaluation and funded accounts?

Generally yes — most firms charge the same commission in both phases. A few firms subsidize commission during the evaluation. Check your firm's help center to confirm.

Do rates change?

Yes — exchange fees change periodically (CME adjusts fees annually). Always verify the current rate with your firm's help center. TrackyTrade will update these defaults as rates change.
